Leeds Streets for All
Civic feedback explainer animation
An explainer animation for Leeds City Council, created to introduce a system for residents to share feedback on local street accessibility and safety.
The film focused on the kinds of everyday issues that can make streets harder to use, such as missing crossings, lack of dropped kerbs, awkward parking, or places that feel difficult or unsafe to walk, wheel, cycle or drive through.
The animation needed to make a civic process feel simple, welcoming and worth taking part in. Rather than presenting the information as a formal council instruction, the film used a friendly character-led approach, closer in tone to a conversation with a neighbour.
The visual style uses soft colours, texture and gentle movement to keep the message warm and accessible. The main character needed to feel expressive and natural, with enough range to gesture, react and guide the viewer through the process clearly.
A key part of the project was the character rig. I built an advanced After Effects setup using my own hand and mouth rigging systems, which made the animation smoother to produce and easier to revise. The time spent rigging upfront meant the character could stay lively and expressive while keeping the production efficient.
