Hand-printed animated short
A final-year university project exploring the relationship between traditional printmaking and digital animation.
All of the animation assets were created as linocuts, hand printed, scanned, then animated in After Effects. The aim was to preserve the irregularity, texture and small imperfections of the handmade process, while using digital tools to bring the printed elements to life.
The project came from an interest in bridging analogue and digital ways of working. The marks, defects and slight unpredictability of hand-cut and hand-printed artwork are difficult to fake convincingly, but they can be carried into a digital animation workflow without losing their character.
Chorizo was exhibited in London and won the Colour in Design Award.
